HIGH RISK
Bed Bugs
Bed bugs feed on human blood during sleep and spread rapidly through luggage, furniture, and shared accommodation. They do not discriminate by cleanliness. In Qatar’s hotels, apartments, and labor camps, a single case can spread across multiple rooms within days.
SIGNS OF INFESTATION
- Rust-colored spots on mattress seams and bedding, tiny eggshells or shed skins in mattress piping or headboards, red, itchy bite marks in lines or clusters on the skin, and a faint sweet, musty odor in affected rooms.
- Live/adult bed bugs—small, flat, reddish-brown—in seams and crevices
PREVENTION TIPS
- Keep luggage elevated and away from soft furnishings, use mattress and pillow encasements as a protective barrier.
- Inspection: Inspect fabric materials, mattress seams and headboards on arrival when traveling, inspect second-hand furniture before bringing it home.
