PEST LIBRARY
LOW RISK
Silverfish
Silverfish are nocturnal, fast-moving insects that thrive in dark, humid environments — making Qatar’s air-conditioned indoor spaces, bathrooms, and storage rooms vulnerable. They cause significant damage to books, documents, wallpaper, and natural fabrics. They often go undetected for extended periods
SIGNS OF INFESTATION
- Irregular holes or surface etching on paper, books, or wallpaper,
- yellow staining on paper materials where silverfish have fed, tiny,
- pepper-like droppings near affected areas, live silverfish seen in bathrooms, storage rooms,
- or under sinks when disturbed, damage to natural fabric clothing stored in wardrobes
PREVENTION TIPS
- Control indoor humidity and ensure ventilation in bathrooms and storage,
- Store important documents and books in sealed plastic containers, fix leaking pipes,
- condensation issues, or damp walls, vacuum regularly in storage areas,
- along skirting boards, seal gaps around pipes and in wall cavities
